Why are braille displays allowed to be so fucking expensive? Why the fuck are you allowed to charge hundreds or THOUSANDS of dollars for a fucking accessibility tool?
I know it's normal to force disabled people to spend thousands on accommodating tools, devices, and general care, and I have always found it infuriating, but I've only recently learned how bad braille displays absolutely gouge blind people. This is a really nice device. Unlike most braille displays, it's multi-line, which is already extremely rare, but for most of the single line devices, you're still looking at 1k-4k+. This device is so expensive the price isn't even listed on the website. It says to contact them...
Whoever in government refused to subsidize these devices (not just this one, but even the simple braille devices) should fucking rot. All of these should be free to blind people, libraries, schools, and any other org or company that blind people work at or interact with.
