3 dynamics which I think has shaped most of computing history:
1. Worker power in computing lay not where it should with unions, but in how difficult the job traditionally was.
2. We reached "sufficiency" in the late 20'00s, early 2010s (when having fully-optimized CPU cores, we turned out attention to the real hardware bottlenecks) which didn't play well with point 1.
3. Hardware engineers are in general very divorced from the needs they're fulfilling. I know one!
