If by AGI you mean artificially generated intelligence, i’ve actually been overthinking this topic for quite some time. I think if you have organic intelligence, and you are afraid of what artificial intelligence is capable of, you are an example of why organic intelligence hasn’t scaled as much as it should be. AI models are only as intelligent as those who create them and they suffer from the same bias as the human data comes with that informs these models. Without bias auditing, artificial intelligence could be worrisome as it will only serve to amplify the bias of the data rather than resolve it. I’d like to see this improved and I believe it will be as the tech is still early. I’ve had several clients in the AI space, one was a company that builds custom AI solutions for businesses. If businesses are able to streamline and make their processes more efficient, while also saving money on salaries that were otherwise spent on jobs that can be performed by an AI model, they could potentially increase profit, and in turn could pay those whose organic brain will continue to offer additional value that a really relatively stupid AI model is not capable of, better. A lot of people are worried about AI taking their jobs, but if your job gets phased out because a bot can perform it that was probably not a satisfying job anyway. There have been many shifts throughout society, in ways that technological advancements have improved the way that people live. When we shifted from mainly farming to the industrial revolution, blue rights were afraid that they would no longer be able to support their families because they would lose their job however, society evolved to where everyone has still ended up, generally gainfully employed, and if they are not, it is not because of the industrial revolution. I think that any solution that makes society more efficient ends up being net positive. People tend to be afraid, or dismissive of that which they do not understand, and AI is another example of this. After the Industrial Revolution society had a better quality of life and economies improved. I’ve found it’s given me an edge to have historically embraced emerging technologies early rather than dismissing them, being obstinately skeptical or afraid of them. People need to chill.
