A big part of the problem with reducing the price of non-green energy sources is that at some point the cost of production will be higher than the price offered to the consumer. Even with a significant buffer in the system at this time, it's possible that it will remain profitable for a while. The real difference is that costs of green energy are mostly installation costs with some maintenance, and line loss, where fuels requiring mining or drilling, have ongoing production costs.
