the problem is that "ideology" is the wrong word for it, what the people he defended believe (lecter himself is kind of a mixed bag) is fundamentally incompatible with the evidence about the subject, they were *objectively wrong*

like, i have nothing against people who advocate for avoiding those relationships due to societal issues and the real problems they can cause, i used to be basically like that (though now it's a lot clearer that rejection is also far from harmless, so doing that is likely to end up as a wash)

but *intervening* against those relationships is fundamentally unjustifiable, interventions are literally a large part of why there is a link between those relationships and negative outcomes to begin with, it makes someone part of the problem they claim to fight

and that is the kind of person liminal, for example (they were far from the only one, just arguably the worst), was, someone lecter defended until the end
