ok so the easiest masto mod that would make it seem like a more formal communication venue would be to make a longposting interface with rich text markdown editor that split every paragraph into its own post when federating, but could be viewed at the home instance as a normal blogpost at a slugified URL (rather than a numeric ID) like /users/{:username}/my-post

you aren't limited to just the interface controls we're used to for threads. you could definitely edit the post and delete and add in the middle and move paragraphs around without breaking threading or losing responses every time. in an ActivityStreams Update action you can also update the inReplyTo property to rearrange threads while keeping the same post ID.
