Assad's a demonized figure, relentlessly attacked by an enormous conspiracy of venal and evil characters, betrayed by weak allies and weaker underlings. Instead of killing himself or dying to a mob or hung after a show trial, he went back into medicine in another country with his family. Only months after his fall, he's already vindicated while alive to see it, with anyone naively hopeful about his fall already revealed to be a dupe. Usually it's not so clear-cut. Maybe this guy will turn into the King Arthur of the Middle East.
