For something that remains radiotoxic for around 300 years, I feel this is such overkill. Second, it wastes a lot of good fuel, although the fuel rods are supposedly retrievable. Third, the first point has the unintended consequence of people *thinking* spent fuel is uniquely dangerous, adding to the narrative of Greenpeace et al that nuclear energy is just not worth it.
