For tech companies it's pretty normal to interview people that are not even in the same continent as the job position. On top of the costs, it would be a bureaucratic nightmare to deal with visas in some cases. So it makes sense to conduct at least the first rounds online.
The downside is that we are probably going to see an uptick on people being fired on the second month in the job.
