JD Vance when asked if he has a responsibility to fact-check things his constituents tell him:
"The media has the responsibility to fact-check the residents of Springfield."
In other words, Republicans have zero obligation to speak truth. They can lie or promote any rumor they want.
Their total disregard for truth is what makes Republican elites so dangerous. And they were this way before Trump.
