This has made me realise something that is interesting to me and I am not having a go at you...

Almost everything that can happen is bad news for some people and good news for others. Rain is bad news for people selling sunglasses and good news for people selling umbrella. I've just noticed that I find the reflexive tendency, given any piece of news, to work out who it's bad for, and then to foreground empathy with them, a bit relentless and a bit grim.
