I remember years ago a Russian compa said something that stuck with me.

The point of Putin's lies isn't to persuade people. They don't persuade anyone. They are literally unbelievable. The point of them is to humiliate his enemies by reminding them that they are so weak that they don't deserve a credible lie. That's why Putin lies as often, and as absurdly, as he does.

That's how I interpret other far-Right presidents' lies and inconsistencies too. They know full well that the news media can't call them out on it, and therefore the more blatant and unbelievable the lie is, the greater the humiliation is.

This is an act of bullying.
