"But adding unnecessary ARIA attributes doesn't hurt accessibility, right?" Well. In theory, adding redundant attributes mostly won't change how a website is conveyed to a user with assistive tech. But there are a couple side effects which can hurt accessibility, directly or indirectly. Adding a lot of unnecessary aria blows up the html which affects maintainability. It is also more prone to errors. Furthermore, aria-label and other hidden text might get overlooked in translation.
