It was mainly the wealthy and affluent women who were against women's suffrage up to the vote. Guess they saw it as a threat to THEIR established order if they had the power to look beyond their pretty wallpaper and parties and husband's wealth. They saw tension coming into the household they ruled behind the scenes, and probably new expectations of them. What exactly, I don't recall because it's been ages since I studied women's history (and I'm poorer working class all the way)... but yeah, anything upsetting the established order is gonna be offensive to those who benefit the most from it.
