Every time someone from the Mastodon team is asked about a feature that is very popular (quote posts) or critical to user safety (admin moderation tools, reply gating), the response is that it would be very difficult and expensive to do within ActivityPub.
Which leads me to wonder: if the protocol cannot support a healthy community, is the protocol the problem?
