it was happening 30+ years ago too, its just that people are more likely to involve the Police and Social Services in such incidents whereas previously it was sorted out "within the family" (in many cases by the parents simply responding with more violence, which might have already been a thing but ceases to work when/if the teenager becomes physically stronger than them which can easily happen in the early teens)
