Iranian state media outlet PressTV released video earlier today appearing to show the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121) operating in the Gulf of Oman, accompanied by audio of what was described as the Iranian “Sepah” Navy ordering the destroyer to turn back toward the Gulf of Oman.
In the recording, the U.S. warship identifies itself as “Warship 121” and states that it is conducting a transit in accordance with international law. Toward the end of the video, an Iranian voice warns nearby vessels to remain at least 10 miles away from any naval vessel, adding that they were “ready to open fire.”
It remains unclear whether the footage is connected to a previously reported encounter, and United States Central Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. PressTV is a state-controlled Iranian media outlet.
