oh! Very similar issue. I think it took us 4 years to get a T1. We were located such that we could do laser link over distances that could support 2 mbit ... But we had a short run, honestly. It's just difficult to fight a monopoly :-) I actually started a second (software) company and subsidized the isp for a while. But, it was lights out by 1999.
