Growing up in Germany, I still remember my parents generation who were toddlers in 1945 talk about "the war" or daily life "after the war". Even for members of the aggressors nation the war had created absurd devastation: fathers missing in action, life-shorting workloads for the mothers, infant death's, poverty, hunger, destroyed livelihoods, etc.
I hope White Americans won't have to learn about fascism the hard way - and spare a lot of grief to everyone else.
