I really think we have a fundamental disconnect about motivations on this legislation. This community is rightfully concerned about issues like a surveillance state, trans genocide, authoritarianism, etc. I will humbly submit that is not the motivation of these bills. Instead, the general public loathes big tech—and social media in particular. Note the verdicts coming down against Meta. The (correct) narrative is: Big Tech made products that harmed kids. The voting public wants "something" done about it. It's a bipartisan issue, an obvious legislative W for lawmakers who struggle to get anything through either chamber.

IMO, that's what is driving this, not the aforementioned evil designs. Those are still there, but I don't think this is a direct manifestation of them.
