This excellent blogpost talks about the dangers of one #fediverse node getting too big. If there are issues with a large instance, those problems can have outsized effects on the entire network.
But the more urgent problem outlined here are the harms of *losing* a node. That’s why losing users to #bluesky is actually very bad for the Fediverse. People leaving means that some nodes could shut down. That means lost data and lost connections.
