I was trying to find a book series in a similar genre - The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede. It’s a YA series so not as heavy as certain parts of the Stephen King one … but with a very similar vibe/mood/setting. But no dog! The dog character is a big highlight. 🐶
