Proper, the ones we have in Ohio are called "The Virginia opossum" (Didelphis virginiana)
They are very common in Ohio, esp in the southern part. This clan visits about every night, weather permitting, clearing the ground of bugs.
"The possums of Australia, whose name derives from their similarity to the American species, are also marsupials, but of the order Diprotodontia."
