ooh.. so there is no actual / official list of criteria that are used by this "REF" panel to categorize the papers?
By metric do you mean like the dreaded impact factor metric?
The number of 3 or 4* papers I get apparently influences my promotion chances, hence my salary. Does this mean I should choose to publish in journals with higher impact factor even if they are for-profit or have expensive publication fees?
