This sort of thing is very annoying. I wanted to learn more about the birds around me, and I was considering using Merlin. But unlike you, I have no way of checking whether its identifications are correct, except possibly trying to match what it said with the songs/calls I can find online. I didn't realise it was that inaccurate.
