He won because both women he ran against moved far right and militaristic, with Clinton also running while exposed for dishonesty & corruption, negating these negatives from Trump. Harris ran better against Trump than Biden but was unwilling to break from his record, especially re Gaza. A decent female candidate could have beaten Trump in 2016 and 2024.
