the whole “teenagers are treated as the property of parents” thing is really just shitty for everyone because even if you *want* to be a good parent in america, if your kid gets hurt you’re the one that’s liable, so pretty much the only thing you’re allowed to do is be a helicopter parent even though everyone hates it.
