WSL is such ass, and I haven't touched it in well over 5 years - I doubt it has gotten any better because have seen naught but systemd offerings for use with it which culminates in "Hey dawg I heard you like bloat in your OS, so I put some bloat in your bloat ....." ad nauseam.
