I can't believe the old adage is true: It's always DNS.
Looks like you're right. I pulled my Ethernet cable off and did some reboots. Hostname does not change across reboots.
So openSUSE really just listens to whatever router tells.
Honestly, I've never seen a distro doing such thing.
