*Some* SF is like that. Not all, although 'Hard SF' is often guilty of exactly this.
This isn't mean as a put down, more a critique of your whole comment, but I suspect your knowledge of, reading list of, and general involvement with the genre is much shallower than my own. Which is fine, I'm not trying to claim expertise.
Only that I have expectations.
