If you can do more than 8 pushups in a set, you are doing them wrong. 500 half assed pushups isn’t shit.
3 sets of 8 should have you sore. If not, slow down, and work on your technique.
What matters for muscle growth is time under tension. You will see more muscle growth if you do extremely slow pushups. Doing 50 little half push ups per set will result in less muscle growth and short muscles. Numbers don’t matter for growth, time under tension does.
