I can't find a logical fault in what you've written... but still I would like to have better assurances of quality and support for most things.

Have you used any of the copy-cat power tools? The ones that take Makita or DeWalt batteries, but are clearly not those brand names but usually in similar colors to Makita blue and DeWalt yellow.
