I can confirm that Wordpress by default is very secure (and easy to secure more). Problem arise when people add crappy 3rd party plugins.
There are still so many ways to get rekt while running a FreeBSD web server, you have to apply many layers of security. One I love is using pf to block (or allow+log) outgoing connections from daemon’s uids (www, mail, etc.)
