This reminds me of what a colleague (prof of labour law) once told me about education and employment in Japan: 日本の制度がより早く諦めがつくように出来ている。I think he was just being descriptive, but translated that reads, "The system in Japan is set up so that a worker will accept the impossibility of their advancement relatively early." I'm not sure what his own views were, but I once met his toddler son, and judging from the child's attire, he was enrolled in private school. 😐
