There's one genuinely astonishing Talmud story in Bava Metzia 59b, in which one rabbi answers all the arguments in the world as to why his interpretation of scripture is correct, then a number of miraculous signs appear to support his position, then God himself says this rabbi is right, then the rest of the rabbis say that it doesn't matter what God says, and cite scripture in defense of the position that a majority of rabbis are right, and then God says His own children have bested him.
