"In 2017, a Redditor called Vadermeer discovered a binder full of ancient internal Apple memos at a Seattle Goodwill thrift store. The memos detailed the workings of a 1979 Apple initiative called SSAFE (“Software Security from Apple’s Friends and Enemies”), which sought to alter Apple’s operating systems and hardware to allow vendors to absolutely stymie any attempts at unauthorized copies of floppy disks.
