In such an ‘ideal minimal state’ you envision (Ayn Rand aside),
1. Would people have an obligation to pay for such ‘protection?’
2. Would this government have a monopoly on protection services?
3. Would they possess special rights? (ie if someone is running around stabbing people, you have a right to forcibly stop them with any amount of force necessary, and so would anyone else… but if a person were to buy a knife in a consensual trade, would your ideal government have a right to forcibly put them through tests or force serial numbers on the knife …for “protection?” …this is just one example but really trying to articulate the question of if your ideal government would have rights you don’t have, yourself)
