The centrifugal acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Velocity vector just rotates with the angular velocity \(\omega\). So its rate of change is the length \(v\) times the angular velocity: \(a = v \omega \). Since \(v = r \omega\), we get
\[a = r \omega^2 = v^2/r \]
