I think the picture is more complex than that. DB isn’t punctual, sure, but trains are frequent so you normally can get to your destination within 1 hour of your target time, and cheap so you can book on the day if you need to. In France on some lines you’ll be lucky to have one train a day, and in the UK last minute travel requires a second mortgage. DB badly needs to
Improve, but overall the service gets you where you need to be at a reasonable price.
