UK isn't building a surveillance state.

It's building infrastructure.

The distinction matters. Surveillance states are visible, resistible, politically costly. Infrastructure is boring, adopted quietly, justified incrementally, almost never rolled back.

Speech verification. Digital identity. Programmable payments. Each with its own rationale: safety, compliance, fraud prevention. None of them lies, exactly. That's what makes the architecture durable.

When identity, communication, and money converge into a single stack, censorship stops requiring a censor. It happens automatically, at the infrastructure layer, before anyone has to make a decision.

That's not dystopia. That's efficiency.

And the people building it aren't villains, they're engineers and regulators solving discrete problems. The convergence is emergent, not conspiratorial. Which makes it harder to oppose, not easier.
