Based on some other posts, it suddenly dawned on me that many folks reckon "self hosting" automatically means "hosting your own thing open to the public internet (from your home or elsewhere)".

So... my perspective: um, no.

It could be that, BUT as starting point, I'm willing to bet 99% of your use of the Thing will be INSIDE your own home net.

So if you want to get started with #SelfHosting , don't get hung up in DynDNS and port forwarding and local DNS server etc etc.

Start by just seeing if you can get something usefull running inside your own home network.
Access it on IP to get started, don't even worry about host names and what-not at the start.

Just... Start!
And then build on that start.
