I mean - you could put all of your files in one directory, but you don't because there's utility in separating them into groups. Even on a single-user computer, root is a different account, because it does different things.

And - you could do all your social media in one account, but that means creeps who saw your youtube videos and decided you are now their special friend crop up everywhere. Eww.
