The plot of the 2004 novel by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton, 'State of Fear' revolves around eco-terrorists causing """natural""" disasters so the world pays more attention to global warming/climate change.
The steps taken by the groups in the book are more extreme than what is happening today, but the aims are the same. Crichton was a ardent opponent to the idea of climate change and uses characters in the book to explain why common touted explanations are bullshit.
Crichton also penned the term "Gell-Mann amnesia", whereby someone that is familiar with a topic discussed in the news media is able to easily identify that the reporting on their topic of expertise is incorrect, but that they will still trust the same media when reporting on topics they aren't familiar with.
The audio book of State of Fear is available online and it's a good listen, though it does include of a lot of overly dramatic beats you would expect from a film thriller.
