Arguably, things that people see as "woke" are attempts at combining morality plays with a consumable work and as such there's an extreme split between those who "get" it and those who feel directly attacked which a consumable isn't supposed to do. It's supposed to comfort you, make you feel "good" (cathartic sadness counts) but it isn't supposed to challenge your beliefs.
