It wasn't (I was there). Zaps came almost 2 years later and NWC (which I helped created) shortly thereafter. We didnt even have regular lightning in the early days.
I like bitcoin just like you, but Nostr has never been about bitcoin or zaps for that matter. Those who like it, use it, but majority doesn't care... Even in these early days.
