My mother actually did something similar to me when I was in my teens. It was the moment I went from being annoyed with her parental authority to treating her like a threat. To this day I don't trust her with my private life, and I basically rank her at "bitchy coworker" on the relationship scale. What she did was cruel, and she was proud of it. She can go to hell.
