"Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel (born February 28, 1906, in Brooklyn, New York) was a prominent Jewish-American mobster who played a pivotal role in the development of Las Vegas as a gambling destination.
He was born to Russian Jewish immigrants and grew up in the impoverished Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, where he began his criminal career at a young age by extorting money from pushcart peddlers on the Lower East Side.
He formed a notorious gang, the "Bugs and Meyer Mob," with his childhood friend Meyer Lansky, which engaged in bootlegging, gambling, and murder."
