There was previously 1 major yearly release which was changed in 4 major quarterly releases and has been reduced down to 2 major releases per year. Those are made available to OEMs and published to the Android Open Source Project. There are monthly security backports to the major releases from the past around 3 years which are also pushed to the Android Open Source Project. Pixel stock OS is separate from what OEMs use which is the AOSP code.
