as long as they're still in date, absolutely! I described Chestnuts as a cross between an acorn and a sweet potato. There's really nothing like them. They're not really nuts. They do well either cooked in fats or cooked in liquids, like braising. Since they have very little fat themselves, they need some kind of liquid to stay plump and edible.
