If you were ever wondering why more people don't use DOWEX with organic solvents for ease of sample recovery: I'm pretty sure I just had my nice carboxylic acid that I produced via saponification in this step revert back to the methyl ester when I cleaved it off the resin in methanolic HCl.
Exactly the result I wanted on a Friday afternoon.
